Believe it or not, mine hasn’t ever had a rebuild, 1988 reg and 47,000 km. Only failure is due to negligence from owners.

The experiment was fine. When these cars were released they were always among the top vehicles to buy in their class. The RX8 even still is dominate in autocross and the rx7 is considered one of the best sports cars ever.
These engines are not expensive to rebuild as well. They are probably one of the cheapest engines to do that. If you own a RX7 put aside money to rebuild it every 100k miles (or more) instead of ruining the car. This was a car built around an engine.

I’ve got 180k mikes on an ‘85 with no signs of having been out of the car, let alone rebuilt. Compression’s good, starts right up hot and cold, and runs like a top. I drive it like I stole it every day and have yet to be disappointed.
